desert island music: self-sustaining, sculptural pieces that stand the test of time without becoming melodramatic. I imagine we were stranded on a desert island and need not rush. Nor do we need one fixed narrative – that’s why I put my set-list on shuffle and let the room decide which piece leads to which.

Walking with you

Cutting out the quiet and the lyrical, I condensed my recital programme into 3 sportive pieces: Maki Ishii’s Thirteen Drums – Iannis Xenakis’ Rebonds A & B – Brian Ferneyhough’s Bone Alphabet. Three pieces that are similarly intense rhythm-wise but different enough to create contrast.
